The Acai Berry and Weight Loss - Going Beyond the Hype

by Tony S. Michaels

There has not been a more hyped weight loss product in recent memory than the acai berry. Incredible claims are made, usually online, about how people are losing 10 pounds and more in a week by taking supplements containing this berry. Many of these claims are, of course, exaggerated, and some are outright lies. Is there any benefit at all to the acai berry? Can it help you to lose weight? Is there truth to the hype, or is this all just another scam, the latest in a long line of weight loss cons designed to separate you from your hard earned money?

Let me state at the beginning that I do not believe that the acai berry craze is unwarranted. While there is certainly an excessive amount of hype, there is, in fact, a great deal of truth behind the hype. And by that I mean to say that the acai berry does actually contain some remarkable weight loss abilities. The problem is that there's no supplement, no drug, no pill, no juice, and no fruit that can help you lose an appreciable amount of weight with no effort on your end. There are no magic formulas and no shortcuts. But most people desperately want to believe otherwise. They want to believe they can eat whatever they want, and how much they want, and still burn fat and lose weight just by taking some kind of supplement. But it doesn't work that way. In fact, it has never worked that way and it never will.

So then, how does the acai berry help in losing weight? Very simply, the acai berry does a couple of things for you that will increase the effectiveness of your weight loss plan. In the first place, it has the effect of suppressing the appetite. This certainly facilitates weight loss, since you will be less hungry and therefore eat less. Secondly, it boosts your metabolism, which means you will burn more calories throughout the day. Now, these are important benefits, to be sure. But, apart from a good weight loss program, one that incorporates a healthy diet and a proper amount of exercise, the acai berry is not going to be able to do all that much for you. It is meant to be a supplement to what you are already doing. It is not meant to be your primary means of losing weight. In its role as a supplement it is very powerful and very effective, and can help you achieve lasting results in the long run. But you will still need to be committed to losing weight, and you will need to put in the effort required to do so - whether you use acai berry or not.
